Advancing Justice-Atlanta Condemns Latest ICE Raids in Atlanta Metro Area

Atlanta, GA - Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta is outraged and deeply heartbroken by the recent wave of ICE raids targeting families in several major U.S. cities, including the Atlanta metro area, over the weekend. These “targeted operations,” reported in areas such as Chamblee and Tucker, targeted individuals seeking asylum in the U.S. and awaiting asylum hearings, have left families shaken and communities in fear.
“Immigrant families are the heart of Georgia’s communities, especially in the vibrant neighborhoods surrounding Buford Highway that have shaped Atlanta’s historic, culinary, and cultural legacy. These communities enrich our schools, workplaces, and places of worship.,” said Murtaza Khwaja, Executive Director at Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta.
“The recent directives allowing immigration enforcement at sacred spaces like churches and schools represent an alarming escalation in a state-sanctioned campaign of fear against immigrant communities. These cruel and inhumane ICE raids, designed to perpetuate chaos and suffering, are an affront not just to these families but to the ideals of the inclusive and compassionate city we strive to build.”
Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta stands in solidarity with immigrant families and communities, reaffirming our commitment to advocate for their protection and rights. Immigrant communities are resilient, and together, we will resist these cruel and unjust attacks.
We urge families and allies to remain vigilant and safe:
Do not open the door for ICE officers unless they present a valid warrant signed by a judge.
Remember, you have the right to remain silent and the right to an attorney.
Avoid carrying documentation that identifies your country of origin.
