We are the first nonprofit law center dedicated to protecting and promoting the civil, social and economic rights of Asian immigrants and refugees in the South. We take on select campaigns that expose or challenge the people, policies and systems that violate the civil rights of immigrants and refugees.
We are stemming the tide of voter apathy, one person at a time.
That's our philosophy and approach at Advancing Justice - Atlanta. We meet with people and small groups one by one, door to door, most often engaging Asian immigrants and refugees who have never registered or voted in America. When more people are engaged in civic life, the common good is strengthened.
There is an acute need for more inclusive policies and diversified political dialogue in the Deep South where immigrants and refugees are an emerging, high-growth demographic. We focus on three main issues: immigration, education, and voting rights.
The South experienced the fastest Asian population growth in the country, yet there is a huge gap in culturally and linguistically appropriate direct legal services. We operate a free multilingual legal hotline and provide low-cost to free confidential legal services on immigration and citizenship.
