Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta to host Citizenship Clinic in Macon

Norcross, GA, May 15, 2019 — On Saturday, June 1st, Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Atlanta (Advancing Justice – Atlanta), Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials (GALEO), with the support by Georgia Women, Middle Georgia Immigration Coalition (MGIC),Nuestra Voz Middle Georgia, and New Americans Campaign will hold a Free Citizenship Clinic in Macon, Georgia, offering multilingual assistance with naturalization process. The event will take place from 10 am to 12 pm at the Centenary United Methodist Church (1235 Ash Street. Macon, GA 31201).

According to Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta, there are about 100,000 Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs) that live outside the metro Atlanta area. The goal of the Free Citizenship Clinic is to assist, especially low-income, limited English proficient families to apply and be naturalized citizens especially outside the metro-Atlanta area where in-language assistance is needed.

In addition, with huge increase in wait time to be over two-years in Atlanta, the proposed new rule by the Trump administration to become harder to obtain a fee waiver, and possible 10% increase in the “immigration service surcharge”, we strongly urge our community members to act now and get free legal help with your citizenship application. “Now, more than ever, we urge all our eligible community members to receive the rights and protections of citizenship”. said Stephanie Cho, Executive Director of Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta. "Becoming a United States citizen is the best way to protect against deportation for you and your family and there are so many benefits to getting your citizenship”.

Appointments are encouraged but walk-ins welcome.
