Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Atlanta to host our Legislative Breakfast and Lobby Day with Legislators, communities, and organizations


Atlanta, GA, February 14, 2018 — On Wednesday, February 22nd from 7:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m, Asian Americans Advancing Justice - Atlanta (Advancing Justice-Atlanta) will host its Annual Asian American Legislative Breakfast and Lobby Day at the Floyd Room of the James H. Floyd Building in downtown Atlanta. This year’s event, we have ten legislators confirmed as featured speakers and twenty organizations and business leaders sponsoring the event:

Asian/Pacific American Council of Georgia, Center for Pan Asian Community Services, Equality Foundation of Georgia, Georgia Asian Pacific American Bar Association, Georgia Association of Latino Elected Officials, The Georgia chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, Georgia Coalition for the Peoples’ Agenda, Georgia Muslim Voter Project, Georgia Restaurant Association, Georgia State AFL-CIO, Georgia Power, Islamic Circle of North America–Atlanta, Korean American Association Greater Atlanta, Korean-American Grocers Association, KPPB Law, Kuck Baxter Immigration, National Association of Chinese-Americans, Vietnamese American Bar Association of Georgia, Vietnamese American Community of Georgia, and Welcoming America.

The Legislative Breakfast and Lobby Day is designed to be a relationship-building opportunity among Asian American leaders, Georgia elected officials and other policy makers. Asian Americans are the fastest growing immigrant population nationally and in Georgia with growing economic influence.

Several distinguished representatives and senators are scheduled to attend.

The day will begin with a breakfast session in the Floyd Room at the James H. Floyd Building (2 MLK Jr. Drive Atlanta, GA 30334) at 7:30 AM. Attendees will have the opportunity to take a picture with Georgia Governor Nathan Deal on the North Steps of the Capitol Building at 10:00 AM, and lobbying will start afterward. The Lunch Panel will begin at 12:00 PM back at the Floyd Room in the James H. Floyd Building (2 MLK Jr. Drive Atlanta, GA 30334) with newly elected women legislators. During the Lobby Day portion of the event, five of the Asian American community’s most active members will be honored on the floor of the House of Representatives through a House Resolution. The honorees are: Sikh Community Activist Dr. Gulbarg Singh Basi, Korean American Association Greater Atlanta Pressident Il Hong Kim, Georgia Institute of Technology Professor Dr. Anna Kim, Duke Realty Corporation Vice President, Angela Hsu, ICNA Relief Regional Director Hamid Qureshi.
